Do you want to experience high school in full colour? Port School’s Art Department aims to provide an environment where students can learn to express themselves artistically, acquire lifelong skills and developing an appreciation of the arts.
The Visual Arts program is designed to give students a wide range of art experiences, to develop their creative talents through a variety of mediums and techniques. Classes range from drawing, ceramics, printmaking, painting and sculpture. Students will experience working both two and three dimensionally, as well as being exposed to a range of art history influences. Our students have the opportunity to experiment, take risks and push boundaries.
Visual arts aptitude is demonstrated through:
- The ability to express ideas and feelings through the use of visual art elements
- The ability to use art media, skills and techniques
- Critical thinking skills and capacity to make decisions and solve problems in visual art contexts
- The capacity to work with others
Art is an important learning experience that can have a powerful impact on self-esteem and the intellectual and emotional development of each student.
At Port School, the Art Room is a friendly and safe environment that allows individuals the opportunity to express their ideas confidently, through the creative act of producing aesthetic artworks.
The annual Malaysia Fundraising Art Exhibition in Term 3 offers students a fantastic opportunity to display the work they have created throughout the year. It also gives all students, teachers and parents/carers, the opportunity to view the amazing talent we have here at Port School.
We are very excited to announce the Art Department will soon be moving to our new larger classroom space overlooking the oval and kitchen garden. The Arts Hub will be a purpose-built studio learning environment to accommodate our larger class sizes and the wide range of creative processes we use. The space will also better serve our students creative needs with the exciting addition of a digital design classroom. We look forward to welcoming students in the Arts Hub anytime (yes, we will still be open to students at recess, lunch and after school!) so drop in and say hello.
